Despacito is a song from 2017 released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It became the top streamed and downloaded song in the world within six months. Mixing reggaeton and pop music was released in the year 2017 by singer from Puerto Rico Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and. It became the most-streamed at that in just six months. In 2015 there were only two mostly Spanish-language songs on Billboard's Top 100 and in 2016 there were four. During the height of Despacito's popularity, however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it into the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 such songs. After Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, the most well-known artists began to join forces with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated on MIA (2018) as did Madonna and Maluma. Madonna joined forces with Maluma to record Medellin in the year 2019. Some reggaeton artists lamented the trend towards mainstream music in 2020. But a newly formed group called Rauw Alejandro, wanted to continue the growth and evolution of reggaeton. He often incorporated elements from electronic dance music and other styles.
